Meeting Point: How Not to Lose Each Other in a Big City
How to choose a convenient pickup spot, send a location pin and agree on timing near stations and metro stops so you can board calmly.

The most common reason for a bad start to a trip is not lateness or the road, but confusion over the meeting place. The driver stands at one exit, the passenger waits at another, and both ring each other and get anxious. In a big city like Tashkent, where stations, metro stops and shopping centres are huge, it happens easily. Here is how to avoid the mix-up, using the routes Tashkent — Samarkand and Tashkent — Chirchik as examples.
Why the meeting point matters so much
The driver usually runs to a schedule and cannot wait long. The passenger spends time and energy searching. A clearly defined place and time save nerves for both and allow you to leave on time, especially when several people from different points are in the car.
How to choose a convenient spot
- Choose recognisable landmarks. A station, a metro stop, a large shopping centre, a square, a well-known petrol station.
- Consider whether a car can stop. The driver needs a place to stop briefly without blocking traffic. Narrow streets and busy junctions are awkward.
- Choose a safe place. Lit, busy, easy to understand. Especially if departure is early in the morning or late in the evening.
- Think about transport. The spot should be reachable for you by public transport or on foot.
- Check what is more convenient for passenger and driver. Sometimes it is better to meet on the outskirts, where the car passes anyway, than to travel to the centre.
Clarify details, not just the name
A general "by the metro" does not work: most stations have several exits. State:
- the exact name of the place or station;
- the exit number or side of the street;
- the nearest landmark: a shop, a sign, a bus stop;
- the colour and make of the car and, if possible, the plate number;
- what you look like: jacket colour, whether you have a suitcase.
A location pin: your main helper
If the app or messenger has a way to send your location, use it. A pin shows the exact spot on the map, and both sides can see where the other is. Send a pin when you leave home and as you approach the meeting point. Download an offline map so you can find your way without mobile data.
Timing: arrive early
- Arrive at the spot 10-15 minutes before departure, and at big stations allow extra time to walk within the complex.
- The driver should also arrive on time and tell you if delayed.
- If departure is early in the morning, remember that public transport may run less often.
- Do not be late: the driver may wait only briefly, since other passengers are waiting for you.
Station and metro specifics
Stations have several entrances, car parks and taxi ranks. Agree on exactly which entrance or car park. Traffic near stations is dense and stopping is often restricted, so the driver may suggest a spot a little further from the entrance. That is normal, just walk over. Near metro stops choose a spot not far from the exit but not right in the pedestrian flow.
If you cannot find each other
- Call or message: describe what you can see around you.
- Send a location pin and a photo of the spot.
- Do not leave the spot without warning, so you do not miss each other.
- If it does not work, agree on a new point nearby that is clear to both.
- If you are waiting too long, say so and decide together: wait or cancel.
Safety at boarding
- Check the plate number and driver's name against the app before you get in.
- Send family the trip details and your arrival time.
- If something bothers you, decline to get in and contact support.
- Do not hand over money or documents before boarding unless agreed in advance.
Tips for drivers
- State the pickup point in the listing as specifically as possible.
- Tell the passenger in advance where you will stop, and switch on hazard lights so you are visible.
- If you collect several passengers at different places, plan the route so as not to lose much time and tell everyone the sequence.
- Stay reachable and reply quickly.
Bottom line
A convenient meeting point is a specific place, a clear time, a location pin and quick contact. Then the trip starts calmly, without running around and stress. For more on trips see the for passengers and for drivers pages, and for all directions the all routes page.
