How to Book a Seat in a Shared Car: A Step-by-Step Guide

From searching for a trip to getting into the car: how to use filters, what to look for when choosing a driver, how booking confirmation works and what to agree on in the chat.

How to Book a Seat in a Shared Car: A Step-by-Step Guide

Booking a seat in a shared car is easier than buying a train ticket, but newcomers still have questions: which trip to choose, when to book, what to write to the driver. Let's walk through the whole process using two popular routes as examples: the long Tashkent — Bukhara and the shorter Tashkent — Namangan.

Step 1. Search for a trip

Open the Yo'ldosh app and enter three things: departure city, destination and date. If your dates are flexible, check the neighbouring days too, since the number of trips on the same route varies from day to day.

It helps to understand each route:

  • Tashkent to Bukhara is about 570 km, usually 7 to 8 hours by car including stops. Many drivers set off early in the morning so they arrive in daylight.
  • Tashkent to Namangan is about 290 km over the Kamchik pass, 4.5 to 5 hours. Trips run throughout the day, with especially many leaving the capital on Fridays and returning on Sundays.

Also check all routes if your destination lies along the way.

Step 2. Use the filters

When there are many trips, filters help narrow the choice quickly. Pay attention to:

  • departure time: morning, afternoon or evening;
  • price per seat: it is set by the driver in advance;
  • number of free seats: if two or three of you are travelling, you need a trip with enough seats;
  • pick-up points: how close they are to you.

Do not choose a trip on the lowest price alone. The difference is usually small, and a convenient pick-up point and a driver with good reviews are worth more than the extra saving.

Step 3. Choose the driver

Open the driver's profile and look at:

  1. Photo and name. A complete profile is a good sign.
  2. Rating and reviews. Read the texts, not just the scores: do people mention punctuality, careful driving, a clean car?
  3. Number of trips. An experienced driver who travels this route regularly knows the road, the stops and the travel time.
  4. The car. The make and model tell you how much boot space there is and how comfortable the ride will be.
  5. Trip description. Drivers often list conditions here: luggage, air conditioning, stops, no smoking in the car.

On a long route like Tashkent to Bukhara, the driver's comfort and reliability matter most of all, because you will spend almost a whole day together.

Step 4. Make the booking

Once you have chosen a trip, tap the booking button and enter the number of seats. Then, depending on the trip settings, one of two things happens:

  • the booking is confirmed instantly;
  • the driver confirms the booking manually, usually within a short time.

Wait for confirmation before making the rest of your plans. If the driver takes a long time to reply and you are short of time, look at a backup option.

Step 5. Talk in the chat

Once confirmed, message the driver in the chat. This is not a formality: it prevents misunderstandings on the day of the trip. Things to clarify:

  • the exact pick-up place and time;
  • how much luggage you have, especially if the bags are large;
  • whether you need a stop along the way or a drop-off at a particular place;
  • how to recognise the car: colour and number plate.

An example of a short message: "Hello! I have booked one seat to Namangan. I have one medium-sized suitcase. Is it fine to get in by the metro station as stated in the trip? Thank you!"

Step 6. The day of the trip

  1. Check the chat in the morning in case the time has changed.
  2. Leave early so you reach the pick-up point 5 to 10 minutes ahead of time.
  3. Compare the number plate and driver's name with the details in the app.
  4. Send the trip details to someone close to you.
  5. Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the journey.

On the Tashkent to Namangan route, the road over the Kamchik pass is beautiful, and the mountain views from the hairpin bends are worth watching from the window. On the way to Bukhara there is usually a lunch stop somewhere around Samarkand or Navoi.

If there is no suitable trip

Sometimes all seats are taken on your date or the departure time does not suit you. Options:

  • check trips a day earlier or later;
  • look for a trip to an intermediate city, such as Samarkand on the way to Bukhara, and continue from there;
  • check the app again later, since drivers publish new trips all the time, especially just before weekends.

Step 7. After the trip

Pay for the trip as agreed and leave a review. An honest review helps other passengers choose drivers and helps drivers understand what to improve.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to book? For weekends and holidays, a few days ahead. On weekdays you can often find a seat the day before.

Can I book a seat for someone else? Yes, but tell the driver in the chat who will be travelling and give the passenger the contact details.

What if my plans change? Cancel the booking as early as possible so the driver can find another passenger and you keep a good reputation.

In short

Search, filters, choosing a driver by reviews, booking, a message in the chat and being on time at the pick-up point: that is the whole process. Find a trip on the Tashkent — Bukhara or Tashkent — Namangan routes, and look for answers to other questions on the for passengers page.
